Building Permit — City of Austin (Development Services)
Austin restaurant build-outs require commercial building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire permits from Austin Development Services before work begins.
What it is. The commercial building permit(s) and trade permits (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm/suppression) for restaurant construction or tenant finish-out, issued by the City of Austin Development Services Department (DSD). Restaurants also require an Austin Public Health plan review and an Austin Water Industrial Waste / Pretreatment plan review (for the grease interceptor).

When you need it. Before construction/tenant finish-out.
How to apply. Submit plans to DSD; Austin Public Health and Austin Water Pretreatment review are part of the restaurant build-out process; obtain trade permits; pass inspections.
