Food Service Permit & Pre-Opening Inspection — DeKalb County
Your DeKalb County Food Service Permit from DeKalb Public Health is issued after Fire Marshal approval and a passing pre-opening inspection.
What Is the Food Service Permit?
After plans are approved and the space is built out, a copy of the Fire Marshal's approval inspection or Certificate of Occupancy is required before the food service permitting inspection. Schedule the Fire Marshal inspection at 404-371-3010 (for Chamblee, Doraville, or Stone Mountain, call 404-371-2611).
An Environmental Health Specialist then conducts the pre-opening inspection against the 2025 Georgia Food Code; on passing, the permit is issued (picked up or mailed). At least one manager with supervisory duties must be food-safety certified (e.g., ServSafe). Permits are non-transferable between operators or locations.
